Solid European Green Oak | Traditional Mortise & Tenon Joinery | Handcrafted in Derbyshire
For those looking for something a little more substantial, our Traditional Heavy-Duty Oak Porch Canopy is built using generous sections of solid European green oak and traditional timber-framing techniques.
Unlike lighter oak canopy kits, this design features 130 × 100 mm solid oak structural timbers, with traditional mortise-and-tenon joints secured using drawbored oak pegs.
Each canopy is individually manufactured to order in our Derbyshire workshop, combining substantial oak sections, traditional joinery and curved gallows brackets to create a solid, characterful entrance canopy.
The difference is in the construction. While lighter canopy designs can offer a similar appearance, this version is built with heavier timber sections and more involved joinery, giving it the character and presence of a traditional oak-framed structure.
Traditional Construction
The frame is manufactured using traditional mortise-and-tenon joints, with drawbored oak pegs securing the connections.
Rather than relying on simple surface fixings to hold the main frame together, the oak components are carefully machined and jointed to form a traditional timber-framed assembly.
The substantial 130 × 100 mm oak sections, exposed joinery and curved gallows brackets give this canopy its distinctive, heavy-duty appearance.
What's Included
Each canopy kit includes:
2 × front truss rafters
1 × front truss bottom chord
4 × solid oak common rafters
2 × curved dovetailed oak gallows brackets
Oak pegs for assembly
Labelled timber components for assembly
** Roof tiles and flashing are not included.**
Available Sizes
Each porch is manufactured to order, with a choice of clear openings to suit different entrances.
The clear opening is measured between the inside faces of the gallows brackets.
Please note that the overall width and height to the roof apex will vary according to the selected opening.
Optional Roofing Felt Pack
An optional roofing pack is available, containing breathable roofing membrane and 25 × 50 mm roofing battens sufficient for most standard roof coverings.
Natural Green Oak
Our porch kits are manufactured from solid European green oak.
As green oak gradually seasons, natural splits, checks, shakes and slight movement will develop. These are normal characteristics of traditional green oak construction and contribute to the individual character of each frame.
Installation & Delivery
Each canopy is supplied as a kit, with components labelled to assist assembly.
The gallows brackets are not pre-drilled for wall mounting, allowing suitable fixing positions to be determined according to the property and supporting masonry. Appropriate structural fixings must be selected by the installer.
All kits are manufactured to order in our Derbyshire workshop. Estimated dispatch times are shown on the product page, with delivery calculated at checkout.
